Teledata Networks Releases Landmark BroadAccess Version Implementing Dual ATM/IP Architecture

Amsterdam, Netherlands – September 14th, 2004: Teledata Networks, a leading provider of wireline access products and network solutions for telecom operators and service providers worldwide, announced today a new release of the BroadAccess IMAP (Integrated Multiservice Access Platform). This release is the first step in implementing the unique Dual ATM/IP Architecture™, which simultaneously transfers ATM and IP traffic on the BroadAccess backplane, as well as providing flexibility for adapting to network requirements of different operators.

The release includes an advanced IP uplink module, which provides direct 10/100Base-T or Gigabit Ethernet uplinks to an IP backbone for Ethernet or DSL services, and performs ATM/IP interworking based on bridging functionality.

The release also introduces new advanced system topologies, enabling the system to cut the costs of multiservice solutions in various network architectures.

An additional feature in the release is the WDM2 module - an integrated CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical combiner module which enables cost-effective use of the same fiber transmission for BroadAccess and other access equipment.

Prior to its official release, the new version has undergone field and lab trials with a number of the company’s customers. All tests were completed successfully to the customers’ full satisfaction.

“This release is a turning-point,” said Mara Leitersdorf, VP R&D, Teledata Networks. “The new ATM/IP architecture and IP uplink module give our system a leap into the Next Generation of Access, as they provide carriers with the smoothest possible migration path from ATM to IP networks”.
